Learning aim D

Use networking techniques to explore employment opportunities in the digital media

Tyneside cinema film school
With the college we got taken down to Newcastle where we would work on a collaborative project with a group of professionals. The project was a short horror film, we started of by setting of into groups. We all read the script and had our own little film area. This was our first practice as a group of college students. We were working with a group of people who are experienced in the film industry. We had them split up to help us with our project. We learned a lot from them. As example we learned how to mess around with continuity and use editing to create a sting effect. I took the role as a cinematographer and had guidance. They showed us how the equipment worked and the correct procedures to use.

Spark FM Sunderland University

This was our first trip in my college group, we were taken to Sunderland university where spark FM Sunderland radio station was taken place, also we got to talk to Yogscast Lydia on a Skype call where we were able to ask questions about what she does and how we can make a living of media/YouTube. The lecturers of the Uni took us round and we were having a tour of there resources and studio’s. We were able to get a first hand experience in the radio studio. Working with people who work in spark Fm and got to know what it’s like to talk to the many people listening in to us speak. Learning what to talk about and how to talk about it.

Hartlepool University

We had the chance to go down to Hartlepool university and take a look at there equipment and resources we spoke about foley and we learned how it was made. The lecturers there had showed us how they used Foley in the James and the giant peach by moving a shopping trolley and recording it. That created the sound of a peach going down a hill. We got to see how editing changed the sound and how you can manipulate what you create. We also got a tour around the uni been shown all the classes and the films they have made.

Teeside university

We got the pleasure in going to Middlesbrough university and talking to a person from ladbible and a free land agent. We got to ask questions about what they did and how it was working for the company/on there own. We got 2 different sides of media in one session. Both sports journalist so we got to see the difference more clear.

Social media techniques

One of the social media techniques I have used is Blogger which I am using now to write this assignment. I use this to document all my work, showing my progression and notes. https://nathansblog11234355336.blogspot.com/2019/06/show-reel.html?m=1
This is a link to my showing all my projects I have been working on and finished over my 2 years of media I get news and updates for my research on companies like mirror, wiki, google and safari. All these help me get as much info as I possibly can.

Learning aim C- CV/Show reel

Specific media roles
I’m going to be talking about roles in media I am interested in one is the film industry. The film industry has a lot of roles in the departments. There a few main ones I’m intrigued by. One is the big job it’s the film director. A film director controls a film’s artistic and dramatic aspects and visualises the screenplay or script while guiding the technical crew and actors. In the fulfilment of that vision. There are many well know film directors such as; Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick and Christopher Nolan. They have all created great films and are legendary but they all had to start somewhere to reach where they are at. Obviously there are a few steps you have to take before directing a film. https://aru.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/film-and-television-production They would have to take courses like this for example and reach there. Another job that would be like this is a screenwriter. A screenplay writer, scriptwriter or scenarist, is a writer who practices the craft of screenwriting, writing screenplays in which mass media, such as films, television programmes and video games are based. A screenwriter is someone who has the idea and that is what I’m interest bringing my ideas to life. I was giving a project at my trip to Tyne side cinema to make a film with my own twist as they gave my group an idea to make Noseforatu. Which was a fun project and I had fun recreating the script and doing our own screenplay. Finally the last job I’m interest in film is the editing part the editors job is to bring all the clips together with there own flare and flow to satisfy the directors needs. Making a continuity edit and making the film smooth as possible editing is mostly in London for this kind of job https://www.nycfilmcrew.com/job/london-film-jobs/film-editor-showstudio-london/?utm_campaign=google_jobs_apply&utm_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic

I have worked on many projects and have a big interest in film. I have been studying a level 3 B-tech in media over the last 2 years and had lots of fun and created lots of my own projects. I am very passionate about this and not only in film but in other media roles as well such as; magazines, commissions and sound design all of these have caught my interest but film has peaked mine the most and I feel I have skills capable of going down this path and having a career in film and maybe others.

Working in media I am very determined and creative with my work and have worked with other people to improve myself. One of the places I have worked at was Tyneside cinema where I was able to use professional equipment and record a short film and edit it on there software giving me experience of what it would be like In a studio

There has not been a long time period on where I have not worked no matter what I will keep myself busy at a job or on a project and that will show my work ethic is very good and important to who I am

I have played many sports as a child and love working with others leadership is a skill of mine that I think is important and playing football, basket ball and other sports has improved that but working with a film team has taught me that controlling a crew is very important

Organisation is another skill that I have that I take pride in. Being organised is vital to my work as if it is all over the place you can miss deadlines and lose work. Been organised has kept me on the ball and makes me a capable worker.

Working in the creative industry- learning aim B

Learning aim B: Understand the structure and job roles in a media sector

Structure of a media sector

There are structures to media industries and I am going to explain them all to you. one media industry is Television. The structure of television. TV can be broken up into five distinct parts: Content creation is the actual creation, filming, and production of a TV show. Content production is the commissioning and funding of a TV show, usually by a studio.  The managers are: General managers, News director, sales manager and Production manager. General manager supervises the station's management and operation tasks. News director coordinates the station's news- gathering efforts. Sales manager, commercial television  stations rely on advertising to generate revenue. production manager supervises each live local newscast and assigns news stories to anchors. Another media sector is radio, the basic structure of a radio station is much like any business model. Ownership is at the top, whether it is a sole proprietors or a board of directors. The responsibility of delegating labour and financial operation falls to upper management, who are supported by administrative staff. Structures of a radio company is: stations manager, operations manager, sales manager, office manager, chief engineer and on-air personalities. A stations manager is at the top of the pyramid , who's responsible for day to day operations. Operations manager is second in command and usually focuses on coordinating, scheduling and promoting on-air programming. Program director creates and plans the daily broadcast schedule. sales manager working on a team constantly generates revenue by selling airtime to advertisers is vital. Office manager works with a team of administrative and finance employees to handle logistics, payroll, taxes, bills, audits and legal matters. Chief engineer manages a team that handles all technical matters. ON air-personalities, Transmitting the station's voice to the public falls to on-air personalities. The film industry. Film production is created in 5 phases development, pre production, production, pot-production and distribution. roles in the industry: producer, director, screenwriter, production designer, art director, costume designer, cinematographer, editor, actor, music supervisor. this person is essentially the group leader and is responsible for managing the production from start to finish. Director is primarily responsible for overseeing the shooting and assembly of a film. Screenwriter, While the dialogue in a film may seem natural to the viewer, a writer carefully crafts it however, the screenwriter does far more than provides dialogue for the actors. They also shape the sequence of events in a film to ensure that one scene transitions to the next so that the story will unfold logically and in an interesting way. production, before one inch of film is shot, the production designer is the first artist to translate the script into visual form. Art director, The art director is responsible for the film 's setting: the buildings, landscapes and interiors that provide the physical context for the characters. Costume designer, costumes convey a great deal about film's time period and the characters who wear them, including their economic status, occupation and attitude towards themselves. Cinematographer is responsible for capturing the script on film or video. Editor, shortly after shooting begins, the editor begins to organise the footage and arrange individual shots have to be chosen and assembled from hundreds of feet of film. Actors are responsible for portraying the characters in a film, actors work closely with the director and cinematographer. Another media sector is publishing, publishing is the process of getting an author 's manuscript into the hands of a reader, by materialising it- giving it form, as a book, The authors manuscript is either solicited (the publisher asks them to write it) or unsolicited (the author writes it, then shops for a publisher. Job roles for publishing: book editors, copy editors, literary agents, literary scouts, publicists, production editors, marketers and sales positions. Book editors are in the business of finding literary talent and then working with those writers to publish their books. Copy editors work in various fields of media including newspapers, magazines and websites Literary agents are in the business of finding literacy talent, like book editors, only earlier in the process. Literary scouts search for books- for foreign publishers or film studious-to be published abroad or to be adapted to the screen. Publicists can work in various media fields, as well as in the corporate world. In book publishing, a publicist usually works for a publishing house and is tasked with getting press attention for the books and authors that the house publishes. Production editors, if you are interested in combining your love of reading with beautiful, eye-catching designs, you may also make a good production editor. Marketers are often good writers themselves as they get to put their writing skills to use in creating press releases, media kits and catalogue, often writing copy that highlights the great features of an author, a book, or a publishing house campaign. Sales positions, do you have a knack for always recommending the perfect books to others, this is the career of sales position. Structure of a press release. It is an anti-climatic method of presenting the facts of a story and the most common approach to news reporting. the headline is followed by a lead paragraph containing one or two key sentences in which end of a news event or story is announced first. A press officer represents an organisation as their main contract for the media . The role entails a wide range of responsibilities, from preparing press releases and organising press conferences and interviews, to leasing with media contacts and monitoring media coverage of the organisation. Advertising is another media sector that is an independent organisation in which the technical and artistic people make ad for people and services of different companies and also choose the mass media. it has writers, artists, media experts, researches, TV producers, account executives. Job roles: contact department , Media department, copy department, art department, production department, research department, Accounting and finance department and office management. The media department of advertising agency is responsible for the choice of media. This department selects the best suitable medium for the ad agency that will be suitable for its client. Before the selection process, media departments initial roles is to find out about: the products nature, the market completions, Advertising budget of the clients, media trends and the functions of media department are: it selects and uses the best media possible to communicate the ad messages to the ultimate consumers, it can also fail, as wrong selection will result in failure of the advertised product, preparation of media scheduling, supervising the execution and it keeps constant contact with the media and the client. Last media sector is computer games. The hardware market is a typical oligopoly, with three major companies: Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. Game designers, they collaborate with other members of the development team including artist, programmers, and audio engineers. Job titles include game designer, lead designer and level designer. As one of the most desired positions of all video games jobs, competition is stiff. There are different types of media in the industry one of them is called Public service media. Public service media is broadcasting made, financed and controlled by the public, for the public. their output is designed to inform, educate and entertain all audiences, PSM broadcasters are often established by law but are non-partisan, independent and run for the benefit of society as a whole. some examples are: BBC and channel 4 they are both benefits for the public entertainment and also research. Commercial media is media that is privately owned by larger companies and corporations. The sole purpose of commercial media is to make money off their programs and advertising. The goal of commercial media is to capitalize on the mass media industries. some examples would be: CBS, Fox broadcasting, NBC and Comcast. Independent media refers to any form of media, such as radio, television, newspapers or the internet, that is free of influence by government or corporate interests. some examples are Horizon media inc, MKG and interTrend communications inc. Vertical integration is when a media company owns different businesses in the same chain of production and distribution. For example a 20th century Fox owns the studios in Hollywood, they also own the cinemas, the TV channels and the DVD rental shops. Horizontal integration is where an organisation develops by buying up competitors in the same section of the market e.g. one music publisher buys out other smaller music publishers. A situation when two firms in the same industry and at the same stage of production come together. Disney is an example of this as they own theme parks, Pixar, Marvel and radio Disney. Cross-platform, also known as cross-media, is a reference to the state of your advertising spanning multiple media types lie TV, mobile and paid search. some examples are: Microsoft, amazon and prosy. A multi-platform approach means that new ideas for content are considered in the context of a wide range of distribution possibilities (online, mobile, interactive games and so on) and not just a single delivery platform such as print or linear television. some examples are Red bull. they offer a wide range of media content across: TV, mobile, digital, audio and print. Last term is Multinational. A multinational company is a corporate organization that owns or controls production of goods and services in at least 2 countries. The best example I can give is Microsoft as they own tons of production areas all over world like UK and America.

Career opportunities in a media sector

I'm going to be breaking down the film industry. The film industry is massive all over the world if someone has not heard about a film they are living under a rock. in 2018 the global box office was worth 47.1 billion if that doesn't show you how big the film industry is I don't know what will. some companies are: Warner bros, Sony, Disney and 20th century fox. these a Film power houses in the industry and other industry's in media too. Warner bros is a huge company. they have roughly 8000 employees and have a revenue of 13.866 billion. they have produced films like the joker, harry potter, Sherlock Holmes and the matrix all very popular films. Disney is second to warner bros as they own a lot of companies. Marvel is one of them a huge franchise owned to them for them to make films and more with. They have a employee rate of 223,000 and a revenue of 69.570 billion. Disney films are very popular like the Lion king, lilo & stich, Thor and many more they are all done very well. finally 20th century fox is a company owned by Disney if that doesn't show you how big they are. they have an employee rank of 2,300. coming out with films like Dead pool, Ice Age, Titanic and Alien. they are excellent film producers. Ownership in the film industry is big as it helps for funding and connections. Disney owns a few but the mains one are marvel and 2th century fox 2 very good companies to have. Another one is Sony owns Columbia pictures another film powerhouse in the industry. Regulations in the film industry is a big thing. one example I can give is that Sony owns Spiderman but Disney owns marvel but what happens is Disney wants Spider-man to themselves so they want to by Sony out and get Spider-man but they were stopped for legal purposes. company regulations are important in the Film industry. Disney owns marvel franchise which is huge as they do very well all over the world End game is the second most grossed film in Box office behind avatar made by a company they own anyways so they are doing very well for themselves. financing is very important in the film industry. A way to get financing is for advertising your film and getting donation/investments into it. big companies use past profits to fund there film but everyone has to start so the way financing works is you either have to have a pitch or a proposal to have companies invest in your idea to produce it for shares or you can advertise and show it of having people excited and make companies want to fund it. licensing fees are a tough one you have to be able to fund for certain music and other locations licencing fees are expensive, a producer gets a certain budget then if he goes over you will need a bank loan. the organisational structure in a film, it's split up into 4 sections: Director of photography, Sound designer, production designer and editor. They are all very important. A cinematographer they are responsible for what the set looks like. they are in control over Lights and camera and creating the picture the director wants on set. A sound designer creates creative sounds and audio for the film. production designer, they are responsible for the overall look. they give a sense of time period and location. finally the editor, they are responsible for brining the film together making sure it all has smooth continuity and add an edit flare so the film looks great.  Management structure is very important in the film industry. at the top is the Executive producer, they are responsible for management, accounting and associating with legal issues. below them is the producer. They plan and coordinate various aspects of film production. Then finally there is the director, they chose the cast members and production design, and creative aspects of film making. creative structure is very important. one creative process is the screen writing. the screenwriter is in charge of the dialogue but not just the dialogue but how that is going to fit into a scene and how it flows. Another creative process is the production designer, they design the storyboards so they change the script into a visual. then there's the Art director, they are responsible for the film's setting: buildings , landscapes and interiors. they acquire props and decorating the set making it believable. Finally the cinematographer they are responsible for lighting and camera really wanting that visual for the film. Technical structure is very important in the film industry as without equipment there is no film. Lighting technician is very important as they rig the lights for the director to get the visual he wants they use different techniques like low key or 3pt lighting. A set designer is another technical part of the job they make sure the set is perfect. they get given a rough idea and they have to produce the best they can do. Then there is a set rigger they work on booms and ropes. they are the handy men of the set. finally there is the data wrangler. they are responsible for transferring the raw footage to the editor and making sure there is no missing clips and errors.

Ethical issues for employees in a media sector

You got to see who does better in groups or as an individual. If you have a director it is important that he has team skills as that will be a problem if he cant work with others individuals would be good for editing and technical work. Religious beliefs have a code where "no film should satirize religion in all it's forms and beliefs, and that religious figures should not be depicted either as clownish or as comical, but in a careful and honourable way" You have to be careful and respect it when you out religion in your film. use of language in film industry is that you got to fully explain narrative try and not use swearing or inappropriate language as it will put the rating up and kids wont be able to watch.  Accessibility is important as you don't want your filming idea being leaked or have financial record been shown to the wrong people. who has access is very important. With budgets the director needs to know what he is working with employee and location wise. Codes of professional practice is vital as you need this to work in management and training. it shows experience and how to behave in the work place. this in filming is very important as all employees are expected to have this.

Legal issues for employees in a media sector

You have to be careful when it comes to representation of groups as you cant be stereotyping as it could cause complaints for the filming and others in the work place. defamation is important as you don't want to ruin other brands by joking around and insulting them as you might get sued. indictment to commit crimes is giving of a bad influence. you cant be saying that stealing is right if your desperate as kids will follow and will cause problems with legal issues also bullying is big in this as if you insult a celebrity people will follow. swearing is okay but not in kids films as they might learn also racist terms are very harsh and shouldn't be used unless its sending a message not to do it. Copyright is important as you do not want to use some ones music without there permission as they can sue and take your film down otherwise. also images is a problem you cant steal shots without getting a signed permission. Intellectual property is important you cannot take some ones trade mark shot or idea as you can get in a problem legally. you should ask If you can use it or change it up a bit. Libel, you cant lie about someone to tarnish there reputation in a film. you need to keep out of employees business and give them privacy.

Working in the creative media industries LA

The media industries
The British film industry is known as cinema with the main distributors being warner bros at (18.2%) paramount (16.3%) and 20th century fox (12.1%). The UK film industry is worth about over 39 billion which is a lot. Uk films earned about 8.1 billion in 2017 it was a record. The British film industry has produced great films like Harry Potter produced by Warner brothers the top film industry in the UK. Harry Potters budget over the 8 films was 1.2 billion and grossed at over 7.7 billion in box office alone. Overall this is a great success in the film industry. Another UK film product that done well is Clockwork orange another film produced by Warner brothers, it grossed world wide at £26,765,352. Which is amazing for one film clockwork orange was very popular being created from a novel like Harry Potter was made from the books. This is a much older film so back then they didn’t have the effects Harry Potter did as it was made in 1972 directed by Stanley Kubrick. Last film produced in the UK I will talk about is Shaun of the dead a British classic it box office at 30 million and its budget was just 6.1 million. Production companies were Working Title Films, studioCanal and Film4 productions. This was produced by a few companies rather than just one. Shaun of the dead was a comedy and is what you would call a British classic. Another media sector is British Television. A big company in British television is BBC. In 2016, the annual income of the BBC amounted to 4.82 billion British pounds, off which 3.74 billion cane from license fee income. One product that the BBC owns is Doctor who. Doctor who is a British tv programme that is very popular it’s a science fiction/drama. There is 12 series and 26 season if that doesn’t show doctor who is a success I don’t know what will. Last Popular TV show is Eastenders another TV show produced by BBC. The show started in the 19th of February 1985 with a total of 6,095 episodes. It’s another soap like coronation street as you can see Britain is very fond on soaps and dramas it’s what British TV is mostly used for. Another media sector is Radio. Radio is very popular for playing music but also getting news across. A radio presenter hosts and broadcasts music or talk shows on a variety of media. Another media sector is animation one product that done particularly well is Wind in the Willows this is a British animation that was distributed by ITV it was released on the 25th of December 1995 so on Christmas. Another animation production is postman pat this was released on BBC 1 and was distributed and produced by Entertainment rights this show done very well in the animation industry in Britain containing 8 series and 184 episodes+ 12 specials. This was a fantastic animation and done very well. Final animation I’m going to discuss is peter rabbit and friends. This British animated show is another classic produced by TVC London and Fredrick Warne & Co this was released on the networks BBC 1 & 2 they done incredible for British animation and continued progressing into better animation and design. Another media sector is interactive media products one Is BBC Britain’s bear interacting media as they give out news radio dramas tv shows the lot BBC is a powerhouse in the media industry in the uk and the world we would be lost without it. Another uk social interacting product is ITV this one in particular is really good for distribution of tv and news as well. Another media sector is publishing press one of them is Pearson’s some of there products consists of Safari books online, my maths lab and mastering platform these products are helpful to schools and are vital to the media industry another one is oxford university press they publish many products like academic research, medicine and journals. This is vital to education overall so these publishing presses are needed in the industry. Last publishing press I’m going to talk about is Bloomsbury. These have produced some products of their own one of them are Bloomsbury Fashion Business cases, Medieval studies, food library and many more these are all what you can read to help you with your studies and learn about something interesting if you would really like. Another media sector is video game industry a big company in the U.K. is 4J Studios Limited they helped produce a game called mine craft extremely popular all over the world but mostly importantly they Owned it for Xbox 360 and ps3 they helped it crossover from mojo who owned it on computer to have it for themselves on consoles. They also produced elder scrolls IV oblivion port on PlayStation 3 which is very popular also as it sold a lot of copies. A lot of American video game companies have studios in the UK as example Activision and Sony both have studios in the UK where they help produce games from there and give the British opinion and culture to gaming. Another media sector is advertising a big company in that is Abbott Meat Vickers BBDO they are an adverting company that have done adverts for snickers, Pepsi co and air pollution these are all great as they link with other companies and because of that they can get celebrities in their adverts like Messi and Mariah Carey to help them Create the best product. Another U.K. advertising company is Adam&everywhereDDB this another company who collaborates with big companies and advertise for them as example they have done a promo for Adidas a huge company who also have big connections for everyone. Advertising on more matters that are happening right now like trolling online they do promos on how that’s bad, also done one on marmite which is strange but is a huge independent company. Another media sector is Marketing. Marketing a company in marketing is Site visibility, which is a marketing agency based in London that has worked with recognisable brands like UK power networks, Nivea, and Hilton. They provide a full range of services , including content marketing, analytics, social media marketing strategy, online PR display display advertising and PPC. Last marketing company is Gravitywell they have everything a marketing company could need such as e-commerce platforms, messenger bots, react native apps, mobile apps, and can even act as video production.

The Film industry

The film industry has loads of areas relating to it one of them is a film director, here are some famous directors to give you an idea; Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick and Christopher Nolan. They have all directed some excellent films such as; the godfather, The wolf of Wall Street, Jaws, Schindlers list, Jurassic park, Saving private Ryan, Vertigo and pulp fiction these are all excellent films all directed by these people. If you can see a good film would mean a good director is needed. A film director is responsible for the creative process and bring the film together a major company in the media industry is Warner brothers they have produced great films like; joker, The dark night, inception and the matrix. These are all very popular films created by Warner brothers. The Warner brothers they are an entertainment industry, founded in 1923. They have been going about a very long time if you manage to get yourself a job there you are doing well for yourself as everyone employed will have to be at a professional level to create such fantastic films. They have an average total of 8,000 employees. They have a revenue of US$13.886 billion in 2017 and also have an operating income of US$1.761 billion in 2017 too. This is what you call a super company someone who runs the world in the film industry. Another big player the film industry is Disney. Disney was also founded in 1923 have came out with some great films also; Frozen, The lion King, Marvel films and lilo and stitch all these are great films that this company has created. Disney is another super company in the film industry having a staff range of 223,000 people working for their company. They have a revenue of US$69,570 billion, and a total equity of US$93,889 billion which is just far too much money this company is huge when it’s come to film and getting a job here would be a great place to be at. Last company I’m going to talk about is Sony. Sony is great company that have produced; Spider-Man, Venom, the Smurf’s, Men in black and Arthur Christmas. They all are great Films and Sony are very important company when it comes to film. Sony was founded in 1946. They have a total employee count of 114,400 which is absolutely massive when you think of it. They have a revenue of $80 billion which is just so much money to be able to create great films for everyone. Some types of employment are producers. A producer is the group leader and is responsible for managing the production from start to Finnish. The producer develops the project from the initial idea, makes sure the financing and manages the production team that makes the film. The producer also coordinates the film making progress to ensure everyone involved in the project is working on schedule and on budget. Without the producer at the helm, films do not get made. Screenwriter is another job in the film industry that is vital. While the dialogue in the film may seem natural to the viewer, a writer carefully crafts it; however, the screenwriter does far more than provide dialogue for the actors. He also shapes the sequence of events in a film to ensure that one scene transitions to the next so that the story will unfold logically and in a interesting way. Like the producer, the screen writer’s role is generally overlooked by the movie- going public, yet is essential to the completion of any film. If there is no script, there is no movie. As the location manager it’s your job to book out places and make sure you get the shots also can be for photography locations to close off certain areas so you can get that shot for a magazine/newspaper.

With legal roles there are certain stuff you got to consider and ensuring compliance is one of them. Ensuring compliance means you have to make sure everything you do is conforming to a rule, such as a specification, policy, standard or law. Regulatory compliance describes the goal that organisations aspire to achieve in their efforts to ensure that they are aware of and take steps to comply with relevant laws, policies and regulations. Raising finance is very important as companies raise money because they might have a short-term need to pay bills or they might have a long term goal and require funds to invest on their growth by selling shares, they sell ownership in their company in return for cash it’s like stock financing this is needed as funding for films or products to start is the only way it’ll be profitable as you do need money for these types of products. Doing this means you have to find out how much it’ll cost to close a street in London and see if you can really afford it also see if you can afford an actors wage there asking to be in the film. They see if what the director wants is affordable.

Recruitment in the media sector

You can be employed through national press club which is a American journalism organisation focused on educational programs for journalists and issuing awards for accomplishments. This is so you can improve your skills and people can employ you through there. Trade press recruits by broadcasting tv that there are jobs available and how they are looking for employees and you find them while your watching the news or reading the news. They also campaign for magazines and you can see recruitment there and how to join through that. Another way of recruitment is networking. Networking is where business people and entrepreneurs meet to form business opportunities share information and seek potential partners for ventures. This is a way where you can find employment partners and work for them showing what you can bring. On social media sides they do recruitment advertising as example there are pages with apprenticeships all over it. Also you can have a Facebook page and just add jobs and not just Facebook there is Instagram and twitter both viable for doing this. You can also have personal contacts like family or friends who can put a word in for you so you can get into a business or employment at a company at least get an interview. You may also work voluntary with people who might put a word in for you at other places so you can start earning. Another way you can find recruitment is through word of mouth where you might here a job opening where you can do down and ask about it yourself and get yourself in there and get that interview. There are also employment websites where you can find and apply online attaching your CV as an example indeed or gov.Com are great for employment. There are also personal websites where you can see it’s created by the employer as example McDonald’s has its own website where you can apply on and it’s there own so you apply there and they email you to get the interview.

Contracts of employment

A full time contract is an obvious one where you work 9-5 everyday most companies would like this one an office publisher job or and article writers would mostly want you on this contract in an office for that time writing up stories and doing paper work. Another contract of employment is part time contract the customer service adviser would want that as you can then your flexible but cannot work all the time. It’s also saves the company money as you might not be needed all the time as it will be pointless you being there 8 hours and getting paid if your only working 4 hours. Another contract of employment is Casual labour this is not an all time job you are called in when your needed to give a hand as example if they have enough people you are not guaranteed to get work by an means, a cameraman would be an example if they need someone to help film or hold a boom mic while they film you will be rang up. Temporary employment is another type like a sort of Christmas or spring temp would be an example where they need an employee only for a season as an example reporters need an extra hand for a bit for an upcoming pandemic (Covid-19) they’ll have temporarily employment until a certain time where they won’t need to report the story anymore. Another type of employment is permanent where they want you for as long as your willing to work at the place a media sector that would want are big jobs like a director or a editor where you will be needed at all times doing your job. Another type of work is voluntary this is the work you do for experience as you do not get paid for this. Radio producers offer this type of employment they get people to get there experience to come on shows with a contracted employee so they can learn and also work for them and do little things like music choice and give of there own ideas. Another type of employment is freelance and self employed these are both where you work for yourself and make your own living you would do this for journalism more than likely because you can go out get your own stories and interviews and sell them off to company and earn money that way. You can also self promote yourself by having your own website and sharing it to social media’s and other people’s productions if they allow it and you can earn that way. Finally you can do crowd funding where you make a product and add a donation part where people can chose if they want to give you money if they enjoy it or not. Or just want to support you.

Finding employment opportunities

A show reel is a good way to show of your skills as a media student or producer, a show reel consist all your movies/videos you have made and edited yourself your productions an employer can look at this and see where your skill level is at. Another way is a portfolio this is something that shows off your skills and qualifications and what you’ve achieved over the years this is your trophy cabinet that you show off to your employer and they can see what you achieved. For example as a media student you might of worked with the government and had contact with them and employers will see that as impressive. Social media examples of work is another way you can show off to the employer. If you have a blog that would be perfect to show all your written work you have done in your course or just in general research of what you have done. A CV is very important when it comes to employment as every employer ask for this. This is your overall experience/ personal profile about yourself you need a personal statement and all your qualification/ work experience need to be on there. It’s like a less detailed portfolio so in a short amount of words make yourself look the most employable. You put references of people you have worked with and they can give feedback on how you were and If you were good they would see you as employable. You can also send a letter application where you send through the post. You will have to use good gramma and punctuation in this flawlessly as this is your application for a job so they expect you to be serious. Finally they’ll use a reference someone you have worked with will have to give a opinion on you as an employer and how they found working with you was and depending on that will decide if they feel like you deserve the job.

Interview techniques

Dress code is very important for an interview as if it’s smart casual and you come in trackies already shows you can’t listen to instructions and it ain’t the best of starts to getting to know you as a person so dress code is like a first impression and you want that to be good not bad. Interpersonal skills are also great to have as if you have them you can talk fluently is shows you will work well and get along with others. Plus answering there question well will make you have a much better chance in the interview. Some techniques you should consider is language speaking clearly without slang is a start as you don’t want to seem sloppy or unprofessional also tone you want to be speaking win authority and straight up like your having a conversation don’t seem shy or they’ll notice your lack of confidence. You don’t want to look away from them so eye to eye contact is important when it comes to that. Finally seating a body language is important you want to sit up straight not slouch and look lazy but body language is important that you don’t figit as you will look bored and uninterested like you don’t want the job.

Increasing job opportunities

Education and training is important as having these too will give you a better look to employers as you will want to be qualified and not look sloppy while working they need someone who can pick up things fast and already know something they will be teaching updating these skills will be needed when it’s comes to increasing your job opportunities. Work experience is important as working with other companies doing different jobs will increase the range of abilities you have and can perform to other companies if you work nationally for free you will look very qualified and ready for employment. Work shadowing is good as watching someone else work will not only help you improve your skills but you will understand what it is actually like in the place earning experience and having that is very important as employers will see that you have shadowed and think he will already have some skills and will not need to be taught certain attributes. Containing professional development this means you keep updating and practicing what your good at as example you can continue to film and edit for practice and if do this you will be more Qualified for more jobs. Finally updating your CV and show reel is important as this is proof of your skill level and what you can work at.

Professional behaviour

Professionalism is key time keeping is important as you do not want to be late for deadlines and meetings, personal appearance you don’t want to not look approachable as at a job you want to look ready and important like you want to be there. Reliability you got to be honest with the work you do and be able to keep up and not let others down when your working. Managing your own activities having a plan on a diary or calendar to make sure you don’t miss deadlines, meeting and be organised as that is very important when it comes to behaviour. Marketing freelance work is important as you want to be making money and having the timing spot on. Maintaining skills, just because your not filming and editing instead doesn’t mean you should slack and not practice as practice Keeps you on form in case they want to switch your roles or give you more responsibility. Understanding new technology is also needed in being professional as you want to be able to understand how to use the resources you get and apply your skills to them. Contributing to team projects is another matter where it shows your reliability as you don’t want to slow your team down by not doing your part in the work place. You can let people down. Finally communication skills is great with working with others as if you can communicate well with others then you can achieve goals and get other people to help you with convincing them it’ll be worth it and it will be very professional.
